In the whole of Austria, forests are private property, so those who break the rules can face criminal charges and fines of up to 3630€ and in case of recidivism up to 7260€!
A few simple rules:
- The mushroom picking season starts on the 15th of June and ends on the 30th of September.
- You are allowed to go into the woods from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- daily harvest limit per person is 2 kg of mushrooms
- Collected mushrooms must be cleaned on the spot where they are found.
- follow the rules indicated on the landowner's signs
- It is forbidden to pick mushrooms in protected areas and national parks.
- Do not pick protected mushrooms
- Do not pick mushrooms smaller than 4 cm.
- Do not use rakes or other tools for picking mushrooms.
- Carrying more than 2 kg of mushrooms per person is prohibited.
- Do not pick mushrooms in large groups
Aktiv Hotel Gargantini provides its guests with the necessary information and documentation for picking and transporting mushrooms, and therefore cannot be held responsible for any violations of regional regulations, for trespassing on private property, for parking cars in unauthorised places, or for any related penalties.
In addition, out of respect for nature and other mushroom pickers, Aktiv Hotel staff have the right not to accept guests with excessive quantities of mushrooms, mushrooms that do not reach the minimum size, protected mushrooms or mushrooms that have not been cleaned.
